What is Girls ReCode?

Girls ReCode is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that aims to bridge the gender gap in STEM and Computer Science. This year, Girls ReCode is hosting a virtual nation-wide hackathon for middle school and high school girls. We want to create an amazing experience for girls to learn how to code, collaborate with others in the community, and get the chance to win amazing awards!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is a weekend-long coding competition where you'll divide up into groups of 1-4 to build a project, whether it be an app, website, or game, that falls under a certain hackathon theme which will be announced at the opening ceremony.

Who can participate?

This hackathon is open to middle and high school girls and other gender minorities!

What's the fee?

Our hackathon is completely free of cost!

What if I don't know how to code?

No problem! We'll be hosting multiple workshops to introduce you to the world of computer science and coding! You'll be able to learn how to create your own projects by the end of the weekend!

What do I need to bring?

Since this hackathon is virtual, all you need to have is a computer of some kind and access to wi-fi! (Some workshops will require additional software, but further details about that will come out later!)
